Browse some of our FAQs to learn more

At Turftenders, we know lawn care can bring up a lot of questions—from how our programs work to what you can expect during each season. To make things easier, we’ve put together answers to the most common questions we receive from clients across Buffalo, Erie County, and Chautauqua County.

Whether you’re a new customer or a long-time client, this page will help you understand our services, policies, and what makes Turftenders different. If you don’t see your question below, feel free to contact us — our team is always happy to help.

Do I need to be home when my application is done?

No. Most of our treatments like weed control, lawn fertilizer, and more are done while most people are at work. When you do get home, take a look at your invoice packet left by your technician. They may have left you with specific instructions or notes regarding your lawn care services. For best results, please follow their advice.

Do I need to water my treatment?

For the fastest results and improvement, yes. Or, if you’d like, you can just wait for the rain. Lawn applications work best when watered in. This helps break down important nutrients that are absorbed by the grass. For best weed control results, water your grass within 48 hours of the application.

What if it rains right after a treatment?

Don’t worry; lawn fertilizer needs water in order to be activated. Weed control only takes 15-20 minutes to dry. After that, rain is actually beneficial. However, if you don’t see weeds curling 2 weeks after our application please let us know. Service calls are available free of charge for any issues that arise.

Should I bag my clippings?

If you cut at the one-third rule, no. The one-third rule means never remove (cut) more than one-third of the grass blade at one time. Excessive amounts of clippings may contain a good bit of lawn fertilizer, and removing these clippings will in turn remove fertilizer from your lawn. Practice proper weed control by following the one-third rule and not bagging clippings.

What about my bill?

An invoice will be left at the time of application. The invoice explains what lawn care services were done to your lawn and what your responsibilities are, and it may have special instructions or notes from your technician. Payment is due upon receipt. At certain times, we accept seasonal prepayment. We accept all major credit cards.

I was looking out my front window, saw the technician spray the front lawn and leave. What about the back?

This is a very common question. The technicians apply weed control, lawn tick treatments, grub prevention, and more starting in the back, at the farthest corner, and “paint their way out.” If you were not looking out the back, where they started, you probably missed them. We also will leave yellow flags at each corner of the property to indicate where the applications were put down.
